Security Risk Configuration

Turning a dense risk-scoring interface into a quick, confident scan.

overview //

The problem: Setting security risk rules across hundreds of assets is normally intimidating. Admins have to work with an opaque scoring model, parse dense tables of numbers, and guess at what a threshold or weight actually means, all while knowing one wrong setting could either expose the network or lock down access unnecessarily.

The solution: This design makes the logic visible instead of hidden. Thresholds come with plain-language explanations instead of bare numbers, the weighting formula stays on-screen instead of buried, and every asset’s risk level shows up as a simple color and bar instead of a raw score. That same visual language repeats across every section of the page, so admins only have to learn it once to read the whole thing, turning a task that used to require expert-level familiarity into something anyone on the team can scan and adjust with confidence.

01

URL Reputation Score

Name the risk before the number does. High, Medium, and Low risk each get their own color, icon, and one-line explanation, so a threshold reads as a decision, not a data point.

02

Risk Weight Distribution

Show the formula, not just the result. The weighted bar breaks the score into its five contributing factors, with the underlying formula spelled out beneath it, so nothing about “why this number” is hidden.

03

Business Control — Group / Categories / Profiles / MAC

One interaction, four contexts. Group, Categories, Profiles, and MAC all share the same list-plus-level pattern, so learning to read one tab means already knowing how to read the rest.

The “high-signal” view

Row-level background tints let color alone signal priority — green reads as low priority, light red as a critical area, readable in peripheral vision before anyone looks closely at the bar itself. Built for a quick audit, not a close read.

The interactive edit

  • 01A slider with a visible “thumb” replaces a text dropdown, communicating that risk is a spectrum, not a list of arbitrary labels.
  • 02Tick marks let users snap precisely to a level instead of guessing at a position.
  • 03The level label sits directly under the thumb while dragging, giving instant feedback without needing to look elsewhere on screen.

The full configuration

All three decisions — thresholds, weights, and asset controls — in one connected view, sharing the same color and bar language across the page.

outcome //

A scoring system that used to require scanning repetitive labels row by row became something a security admin could assess at a glance and adjust with one confident gesture — turning a data-dense config screen into a genuinely quick scan.

abstract //

At Ordr I owned core product flows and dashboards for Ordr Protect — a B2B SaaS platform unifying detection, investigation, response, and administration into a single coherent interaction model. I designed Ordr AI CAASM+ for comprehensive asset inventory across IoT and OT environments, the Asset Graph for vulnerability visibility across complex device relationships, and the Ask AI copilot using progressive disclosure to simplify dense security workflows.
